About Disneyland Resort

Disneyland Resort in Anaheim is the only Disney park Walt Disney personally walked, opened in 1955 and now a two-park resort: Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, plus the Downtown Disney shopping/dining district and three Disney-owned hotels. From John Wayne (SNA) it's about 14 miles / 25 minutes up I-5; from Newport Beach roughly 30 minutes; from LAX about 35 miles. A 12–15 passenger van is the cleanest way to keep a multigenerational group together — one drop at the Mickey & Friends parking structure, one pickup at midnight, no rideshare surge multipliers on Magic Hours nights.

Why it's worth the drive

Things to do

What groups actually do at Disneyland

Rise of the Resistance

The flagship Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge ride — a 17-minute trackless ride through a Star Destroyer hangar. Use Lightning Lane Single Pass or rope-drop.

Radiator Springs Racers

Cars Land's slot-car-racing finale at DCA — book Lightning Lane Multi Pass the moment you tap in.

World of Color

Nighttime water/fire/projection show on Paradise Bay at DCA — Dining Package reservations get the prime viewing area.

Matterhorn Bobsleds

1959 original mountain coaster, the first tubular-steel roller coaster ever built — single-rider line moves fast.

Pirates of the Caribbean & Haunted Mansion

The two Walt-era classics on the New Orleans Square waterfront — Haunted Mansion converts to Nightmare Before Christmas overlay Sep–Jan.

Downtown Disney + fireworks

Free to enter — Black Tap shakes, Tortilla Jo's, and a perfect view of Disneyland fireworks from the Esplanade with no park admission.

Group + van tips

Driving a 12-15 passenger van to Disneyland

  • Use the Mickey & Friends parking structure (off Disneyland Dr) — 10,000+ spaces, accepts 12-15 passenger Sprinters and Transits in standard spaces.
  • Preferred Parking ($60) puts you in the Pixar Pals or Toy Story lots closer to the trams — worth it for groups with strollers or anyone parking after 11 AM.
  • Drop-off and pickup is free at the Harbor Blvd Transportation Hub — fastest option if the driver isn't entering the park.
  • The Toy Story lot uses Anaheim Resort Transit buses, not trams — slightly longer but the lot fills last on busy days.

All Disneyland Resort parking structures accept standard Sprinters and Ford Transits. RVs / oversize vehicles park at the Toy Story lot.

When to go

Best time to visit

Mid-January through mid-March (after MLK weekend, before Spring Break) and mid-September through early November are the lightest crowd windows. Halloween Time runs early Sept – Oct 31; Holidays at the Disneyland Resort runs early Nov – early Jan. Avoid Christmas week, Spring Break, and the week between Christmas and New Year's unless you have park reservations and Lightning Lane budget.

Need a van for the trip?

Our OC fleet of 12-15 passenger Sprinters and Ford Transits delivers to John Wayne (SNA), Long Beach (LGB), and any Anaheim, Newport, or Laguna hotel door.
