The single most important thing to understand: U.S. auto insurance and any coverage attached to your rental agreement is not valid in Mexico. Mexican law only recognizes liability insurance issued by a Mexican-licensed insurer. That policy is purchased separately, after your rental is confirmed, and it is your responsibility as the renter.

We'll provide the vehicle information the insurer asks for — year, make, model, VIN, and stated value — plus a letter of authorization confirming you have our permission to take the van into Mexico. Bring both the policy and the letter with you in the van.
Any damage, theft, or liability that occurs in Mexico is settled through your Mexican policy. Coverage purchased through us, including our optional liability product, stops at the U.S. border.
