About this vehicle

The full story on the Ford Transit (Low Roof)

The Ford Transit Low Roof is the most affordable 12 to 15-passenger van in our fleet, designed for groups that need real capacity without the extra height of a Mid or High Roof version. Its biggest advantage: it fits in standard residential garages and most parking structures, making it the easiest full-size van to park anywhere.

Powered by Ford's 3.5L PFDI naturally aspirated V6 (~275 hp), it's smooth, simple, and easy to drive. The Low Roof platform is the same body Ford uses for fleet shuttle operators across the country — proven reliable, cheap to maintain, and ready for daily use.

Inside you get bench seating for up to 15 passengers, dual climate control with rear vents, and Ford's basic SYNC infotainment with Bluetooth and a backup camera. Not as plush as a Sprinter, but a solid, dependable group vehicle at the best price point we offer for a Ford-branded passenger van.

What makes it stand out

  • Low roof — fits standard garages and most parking structures
  • 3.5L PFDI V6 (~275 hp) — proven, simple, and reliable
  • Bench seating for 12 or 15 passengers
  • Climate control front and rear with ceiling vents
  • Ford SYNC with Bluetooth phone integration
  • Backup camera standard
  • One of the lowest daily rates for a Ford passenger van
  • Modern Ford build quality with the latest safety features

Driving

Ford's 3.5L PFDI V6 is naturally aspirated — no turbo lag, just smooth, predictable power. Paired to a 10-speed automatic with adaptive cruise control on most builds, it cruises comfortably at highway speed and handles local stop-and-go traffic without effort. The lower roof gives it a tighter, more car-like feel than the Mid or High Roof versions, especially in crosswinds and parking lots.

Interior & comfort

Three rows of bench seating with full headrests, 3-point belts at every position, and side window vents. Climate control reaches all rows through ceiling vents. The low roof keeps the cabin proportions similar to a large SUV — comfortable for passengers under about 6'2", but taller passengers will notice less headroom than the Mid or High Roof options.

Cargo & luggage

Cargo behind the last row is moderate — roughly 55 to 90 cu ft depending on the 15-passenger or 12-passenger configuration. Comfortable for carry-on luggage for the group; if you're bringing full-size suitcases for 15 people, the Mid or High Roof is the better pick.

Best for

  • Local group transportation and short-distance shuttle service
  • Customers who need garage clearance at home or destination
  • Budget-conscious group travel with light to moderate luggage
  • Church groups, school groups, and family trips
  • Anyone choosing between a Chevy Express and a higher-roof Transit at a similar price

Things to know

Less headroom and less luggage space than the Mid or High Roof Transit. If you're traveling with bulky bags or tall passengers, step up to the Mid Roof. If you need a high-roof stand-up cabin, choose the High Roof Transit or a Sprinter.
